Ashley Hair, 23, died after suffering “severe multiple trauma” in yesterday’s crash, according to Haas.
Haas said he believes Hair lived in the Ithaca area.
Hair was in the passenger seat of a pickup truck when it appears to have hit a waste truck on Route 79, also known as Mecklenburg Road, sometime around 9 a.m. on Wednesday.
The crash prompted a massive emergency response and led to the road’s closure for several hours Wednesday. Two helicopters were called to the scene.
The driver of the pickup truck — Paul Carl, 49 — was also hospitalized in the crash. He is in serious condition Thursday but is expected to recover, according to Senior Investigator Haas.
A third person in the pickup truck — Carl’s 12-year-old son — was injured but has been treated and released.
Senior Investigator Haas did not have a time of death for Ashley Hair. He said he got a call around 6:30 p.m. last night that she had died.
