Ithaca, N.Y. — The pedestrian who died after being hit by a TCAT bus Monday morning has been identified as Cornell staff member Angela Stedwell.
Stedwell, 55, of Spencer, worked in the College of Human Ecology, according to a statement from the university. A police investigation is ongoing.
The Cayuga Heights Police Department was called to Jessup Road at around 7:25 a.m.
Stedwell was hit by a TCAT bus while crossing Jessup Road near Cornell’s A-Lot. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Cornell’s Vice President for Human Resources and Safety Services Mary Opperman said the following in a statement:
“I offer my deepest sympathy to Angela’s family, friends and co-workers, who could not have prepared for their sudden loss. I ask all of you to keep Angela in your thoughts.”
“This is a difficult time for our community. Please take advantage of the resources available through Faculty and Staff Assistance Program and Gannett Health Services.”
Stedwell was an administrative assistant in the Department of Human Development, according to the university.
Update 12:30 p.m. —
The detours on Route 81 and Route 82 have been lifted, according to TCAT spokesperson Patty Poist.
A pedestrian died after being struck by a TCAT bus Monday morning. There is no word on the identity of the victim.

Officials with the Public Transportation Board in Albany are en route to Ithaca to investigate a fatal bus-pedestrian accident that killed one person Monday morning on Cornell’s campus, according to Patty Poist, TCAT spokesperson.
TCAT’s operations team, including an operations manager and three transit service supervisors, are at the scene of the crash to investigate as well, according to Poist.
Because of the emergency, Route 82 inbound is being detoured using Cradit Farm Road to Pleasant Grove Road, according to TCAT. Route 81 southbound is being detoured down Pleasant Grove Road to Cradit Farm Road. There is no service on Jessup Road.
Ithaca, N.Y. — One person is dead after an accident on Cornell’s campus Monday morning, according to Ithaca Police Chief John Barber.
Cayuga Heights Police are investigating. Several law enforcement agencies have been called to the 200 block of Jessup Road.
Responders were called to the scene at 7:25 a.m. The road is shut down, according to the Tompkins County 911 Dispatch Center. The accident involved a bus and a pedestrian.
Bangs Ambulance and state police are on scene directing traffic.
