Gary Kurbanov, 22, of Lansing, has been charged with criminal possession of a weapon, according to police.
Ithaca police officers were called to the 200 block of South Plain Street for a report of shots fired but found nobody injured and nobody at the scene. But “information was developed regarding a potential suspect” at this scene, according to police.
Later, at around 10 p.m., Ithaca police saw a dispute in front of Chuck’s Mobil gas station at 540 West State Street.
That’s when police took Kurbanov into custody. He admitted that there was a handgun in his vehicle, which police then found, according to the Ithaca police statement.
Police later discovered that Kurbanov was also wearing a bulletproof vest, according to IPD.
Kurbanov was arraigned before the Judge Miller and sent to jail.
Police ask anyone who knows more about the incident to call them at 607-272-3245.
