RELEASE: ITHACA, NY- Today Big Red Sports Network announces a partnership with Cornell’s student run radio station WVBR 93.5 FM Ithaca’s Real Rock Radio Station.The partnership, which has been in the works for nearly two years, will allow BRSN to bring its high quality sports content to one of Ithaca’s premier radio stations in WVBR.
As part of the partnership, the two entities have announced the launch of a new FM Sports Radio show called BRSN’s Around the Gorge that will air every Saturday night from 9:00 – 10:00 PM EST. Around the Gorge will be a sports talk show with a focus on the Cornell athletics community and all of its happenings. The show promises to be one of the most dynamic sports talk shows in the region coupling some of the best and most talented hosts from both Big Red Sports Network and WVBR. The new program will launch Saturday November 1st with hosts Graham Dietz, Matt Harkins, and Alex Gimenez at the helm. Stay tuned to Big Red Sports Network for more information.
In addition to the launch of Around the Gorge, Big Red Sports Network has been involved in creating a new direction for WVBR’s original sports talk show, The Sports Round Up, which airs Sundays from 7:00 – 8:00 PM EST. The show, originally created and hosted by famous WVBR alum Keith Olbermann, will place an emphasis on covering sports on East Hill and telling the stories of Cornell’s top athletes. Each week, the hosts will welcome at least one Cornell athlete to the show to share their stories on air with the Ithaca community. Athlete guests will be announced each week prior to the show.
In order to complement the two sports shows, WVBR and BRSN also announce the launch of a brand new sports report series called Big Red Sports Flashes. Starting today (October 29th) Sports Flashes will air just after the top of the 4:00, 5:00 and 6:00 hours every weekday on the FM station. The new reports will bring daily news, game highlights and previews of all things Cornell Athletics to the airwaves. Combined with the two weekend shows, the Sports Flashes will help provide the local community with daily coverage of Cornell’s athletes, coaches, and teams.
The partnership also provides for collaborative work between WVBR’s online only radio affiliate CornellRadio.com and Big Red Sports Network. More information on the nature of this area of the partnership will be announced in the coming days.
All WVBR FM content will be available for live stream through wvbr.com and will be archived for on-demand listening through bigredsportsnetwork.org.
