Ithaca, N.Y. — Ithaca police say a woman has been arrested for attacking a victim with a steel grate pulled from a stove.

The victim was hospitalized with “multiple contusions” to the head and face and a broken rib.

Amelia Kearney, 44, has been charged with first-degree assault, a felony. The victim was taken to Cayuga Medical Center.

Kearney was taken to the Ithaca Police Department for processing and then to court for an arraignment. The incident occurred Saturday at 2:50 p.m. at 229 South Geneva Street.

Kearney was also charged with the misdemeanor of third-degree assault and violating an order of protection.

The victim also suffered a laceration to the back of the head.
