Ithaca, N.Y. — A man living in Collegetown was punched in the face and hospitalized after chasing a group of burglars who raided his house, according to the Ithaca Police Department.

Here’s the account Officer Jamie Williamson gave of the 3:09 a.m. incident at 109 Catherine Street:

Two residents were home when they heard the front door open. When they went to see why the door was open, they saw several men leaving the apartment.

One of the men leaving the apartment was carrying one of the resident’s laptops. The resident chased after the group of suspects.

The resident caught up with the suspects about a block away to confront them about the stolen computer. That’s when one of the suspects punched the resident in the face.

The resident took himself to a local hospital and received medical treatment for possible broken facial bones. The burglars fled.

The Ithaca Police Department is investiagting.
