Ithaca, N.Y. — There’s no indication of foul play in the body pulled from a drainage ditch in Ithaca Tuesday morning, Police Chief John Barber said.
Barber confirmed that a body was pulled near the Walmart on Fairgrounds Memorial Parkway Tuesday morning.
The body has been removed from the ditch, Barber said. An investigation is currently underway.
Bangs Ambulance and the Ithaca Fire Department were also called to the scene. The man has not been publicly identified pending notification of kin.
Ithaca police responded to an access road that leads from Elmira Road to Fairgrounds Memorial Parkway around 8:42 a.m.
“Officers arrived on scene and located a male victim in the creekbed,” Officer Jamie Williamson said in a release.
The victim is a medium-skinned black male, about 20 years old, about 6’2 tall and about 270 pounds. He was wearing a grey t-shirt, dark colored jeans, and flip flops.
Police say an autopsy and toxicology examination will be completed at a regional hospital. It does not appear that foul play was involved.
