Ithaca, N.Y. — Two people awoke in Ithaca early Wednesday morning to find a burglar going through their belongings, according to Cornell police.

The burglaries occurred between 5 and 5:45 a.m., according to a Cornell crime alert.

The first took place at 804 Stewart Avenue and is being investigated by the Ithaca Police Department. A male victim awoke to the sound of someone going through his room. He found a suspect going through his wallet before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash.

“The victim describes the perpetrator as a light-skinned black male in his late 20s to early 30s,wearing an Oakland As ball cap that was green with a yellow brim,” the police said.

The second burglary occurred at 623 University Avenue and is being investigated by Cornell police.

“The female victim reports that she was awoken by a male subject going through a bag in her room,” Cornell police said. “Officers are still on scene investigating this case and no further details available at this time.”

“We urge community members to remember to lock doors and lower-level windows at night or anytime a residence is unoccupied.”
