Ithaca, N.Y. — Mayor Svante Myrick, Assemblywoman Barbara Lifton and the state’s Department of Transportation announced a new group on Monday to evaluate “every possible improvement” to highway safety.

“We are committed to taking every reasonable measure to improve safety on our streets, on our sidewalks, and in our buildings,” Myrick said in a news release.

Monday’s announcement comes in response to the June 20 crash on the Commons that killed 27-year-old bartender Amanda Bush.

“Lifton and Myrick spoke soon after the accident that evening and agreed to ask for a meeting with DOT and work together to see what might be done to augment safety measures on the steep hills around Ithaca,” a news release said.
