Newfield, N.Y. — A Newfield business owner is not pursuing charges against someone who stole — then returned — a safe containing more than $30,000, according to the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office said Friday that it had closed its investigation into the burglary at Guidi’s Collision Services at 1435 Elmira Road in Newfield.

“A suspect has been identified by the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office; however, the owner, Carmen J. Guidi, has declined to pursue charges,” deputies said in a press release.

The burglary occurred on June 3. The safe has been recovered and returned to Guidi with an undisclosed amount of cash.

“No additional information will be released pertaining to the suspect,” the sheriff’s office said.

“This case was no relationship to any of the current burglaries being investigated.”
