Ithaca, N.Y. — Ithaca police have accused a man of trying to break into a convenience store on West State Street.

Police were called to John’s Convenience Store, at 333 West State St., around 1:03 a.m. Monday for an alarm activation.

The officers found damage to the front glass door of the business and began searching the area.

They soon found Jonathan Dobbs, 23, of Ithaca, hiding in the bushes near the store.

Jonathan Dobbs

Dobbs has been charged with the felonies of third-degree attempted burglary and third-degree criminal mischief.

“Officers viewed the business’s surveillance system, which show Dobbs repeatedly striking the glass doors in an attempt to break out the glass and make entry,” police said in a statement.

Dobbs has been arrested, arraigned and will appear in court soon.

A police press release did not specify how, or if, the attempted burglary was connected to more than a dozen that have rocked businesses on Ithaca’s west side for several weeks.
