“Mr. Powers has distinguished himself as an instructional leader in the ICSD, and I am pleased to have had the opportunity to learn with him,” said Superintendent Luvelle Brown in a press release.

Powers will be taking the helm of the Union Springs Central School District in Cayuga County.

Powers, an Ithaca College graduate, began teaching social studies at IHS in 2004. He started as principal in the 2011–2012 school year.

An interim principal will be appointed by ICSD as it begins a national search for Powers’ replacement.

“I will truly miss Ithaca High School,” Powers said in a statement. “I’d like to think I leave the high school better than I found it, and in a strong position to continue to support student learning and achievement.”
