Ovid, N.Y. — The body found on the western shore of Cayuga Lake this weekend has been identified as 54-year-old Douglas W. Laughlin, according to sheriff’s deputies.

Preliminary autopsy results show that Laughlin died in an accidental drowning on the lake, the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

Laughlin was found around 11 a.m. on Saturday near county Route 153 and Deerlick Springs Road in the town of Ovid. Seneca County sheriff’s deputies have been investigating the death since.

Laughlin is originally from the Chemung County town of Horseheads but had been staying in Ovid near Route 153, sheriff’s deputies said.

The autopsy was performed on Sunday at the Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s Office.

“The investigation is continuing,” sheriff’s deputies said in a statement. “Anyone with information can contact Chief Deputy John Cleere at 315-220-3408 or email jcleere@co.seneca.ny.us.”
