3-year-old leading the way!

“The fundraising for the 2014 March for the Animals is already off with some very stiff competition!  3-year-old Avery Roberts is chasing some of the SPCA of Tompkins County’s most seasoned fundraisers this year and really giving them a run for their money (including Buddy and I!!)” says Jim Bouderau, executive director.

He goes on to say: “She is hot on our tails! While I should be embarrassed to be beaten by a 3-year- old, instead I’m totally inspired!  I learned about Avery’s competition just after I go back from IC3’s Summer Camp where the campers had gathered a lot of donations for our animals.  It is always so inspiring to see children so young care about the SPCA and the animals we shelter. HUGE thanks to them and even BIGGER thanks to Avery for keeping us on our toes!!”

Registration has only just opened for the March for the Animals and there is still plenty of time to join. This year’s March is on Sunday, October 5 at the F.R. Newman Arboretum at the Cornell Plantations. Leslie Danks Burke and her family are our March chairs this year, and they are also already finding ways to reach their goal.

The March is a “friend-raiser” and, like a Women Swimmin’ or a Relay for Life, relies on the exponential power of participation. 10 participants asking 10 friends for $10 quickly adds up and provides critically needed funds for the SPCA’s life saving work.  People interested in joining can participate from ANYWHERE as Virtual Marchers.

With just about fives weeks to reach the goal of $100,000 for the March, funds which go toward the veterinary care of shelter animals here in Tompkins County, the SPCA is hard at work recruiting Marchers.

Click here to Register and start fundraising. The SPCA asks that adults raise a minimum of $100 each and that children attempt to raise $50 each. Bouderau reiterates “10 people who ask just 10 friends each for $10 each can raise $1000 in no time!”
