Ithaca, N.Y. — Empty beer cans, cardboard boxes and bags of trash are just a few of the items left at Second Dam near the Mulholland Wildflower Preserve.

The piles of trash, which have been there since at least Tuesday, are located where what schoolteacher Jen Curley said “should have been a beautiful rest stop,” in a Facebook post.

Curley said that she was hiking when she stumbled upon the piles of trash.

Curley suggested that the culprits who left their trash just a few feet from the water may have been camping.

“I don’t know who would do this,” she said.

The location of the trash, just off of Route 79.
