Ithaca, N.Y. — Ithaca’s holiday weekend just got a bit more festive: As per a report in The Ithaca Journal, the Stanley Cup will be paying a visit Saturday for a public event at Cass Park from 9 to 11 a.m.

LA Kings Captain and Ithaca native Dustin Brown will be bringing the Cup back to Ithaca for the second time in three years, having brought the hardware home in late July of 2012 after the Kings beat the Devils in the Stanley Cup.

This time around, the Cup will be around in early July, as the Cup’s global tour with the Kings began after the NHL Draft concluded this past weekend in Philadelphia.

As the Kings’ captain, Brown has some pull on when the Cup pays a visit to his hometown, an annual tradition as each player and member of the staff of the winning team gets a visit from Hockey’s Holy Grail.

And this weekend, Ithaca apparently will get a bit more to celebrate this Independence Day weekend.
