Ithaca, N.Y. — If you see a rising senior at the Lehman Alternative Community School anytime soon, be sure to stop and offer your congratulations: He or she almost certainly got SAT scores that crushed whatever it was you once got.

LACS is a small school that prides itself in small classrooms, but it has evidence to boast of big brains, too.

The New York State Department of Education said last month that no school had a higher average SAT score than Lehman, according to the publication Business First.

Lehman saw an average combined SAT score of 1,831 — a whole 38 points higher than that of the next runner-up, Brighton High School in suburban Rochester. The City Honors School in Buffalo came in fourth.

And the fourth place finisher? That would be Ithaca High School, according to Business First.

IHS posted a median SAT score of 1,744, making it the highest-scoring school in NY with more than 240 test takers.

So: Good job, Ithaca students. There must be something in the water.
