A fire in Cayuga County displaced one woman and killed her pets, according to The Citizen.

The Auburn newspaper reported:

One female resident and her caregiver were displaced and several pets died after a house fire early Friday in Aurelius.

According to Cayuga County’s chapter of the American Red Cross, a truck driver spotted the fire on Clark Street Road and helped a woman escape.

“If it weren’t for that person we’d have probably had a bigger problem than just the house fire,” said Rob Anthony, Aurelius Fire Department second assistant fire chief.

Were it not for the selfless good samaritan, Anthony said, the “fire could have lasted much longer.”
