Ithaca, N.Y. — Authorities initially gave the wrong name of the company that owns the tractor-trailer that crashed into Simeon’s and killed a pregnant mother, according to Ithaca police.

After the crash last Friday, Officer Jamie Williamson told reporters that the name of the trucking company is Auto Star Transport.

Williamson sent out a press release Friday afternoon saying that the company is actually named “Quality Re-Locating Services,” but was formerly known as Auto Star Transport.

The Ithaca Voice published multiple stories after discovering that Auto Star Transport, the name given by police, had been dissolved and had its insurance revoked. Police stated at the time that Auto Star was the correct name.

That confusion was cleared up by Friday’s press release as Williamson said that the tractor was owned by Quality Relocating Services, which is insured.

Viacheslav Grychanyi, of Spokane, Washington, has been identified as the driver of the tractor-trailer. He was ticketed with having an over length trailer and defective brakes.

Grychanyi will appear in Ithaca City Court on July 2, 2014 at 11 a.m., Officer Williamson said.
