Ithaca, N.Y. — Ithaca could have left unadorned gray walls around the construction site of the Commons.
But it’s Ithaca, so — of course — it didn’t. What instead emerged was a beautiful array that showcases all the city has to offer: schools, food, night-life and more.
The following murals grace the exterior of the Commons project, which began in April 2013 and is expected to be done in 17 months, according to Mayor Svante Myrick.
The local charter school teaches entrepreneurs about sustainability
The local library has a thriving community of readers young and old
The fire department has a sense of humor
Even macho men here are thoughtful …

The gorges flow through the city
There’s a late-night scene with, apparently, “shots shots shots shots …”
It’s family friendly
Record stores still exist here
You can get your goods made locally
And your beers…
There’s a growing theater scene (ignore the Sunoco sticker!)

There’s a running scene
Here, pigs can fly
Dogs can read
There’s passionate political debate
And we’re ripped
